January 20, 2018, Saint Cloud, Minnesota    At Rocking Horse Farm, 25636 County Road 74, Saint Cloud, Minnesota, 10-6 pm.  Deb Oswald will lead a class project starting at 10:15am
Pete Oswald will be available for CSM maintenance and repair consultation, all day
Carole Wurst will lead show-and-tell at 1:30pm.  Carole Wurst will do a special demo of adding beads while knitting on the CSM (also applies to regular knitting machines). Lunch is potluck. This event is free, no pre-registration required. Bring your CSM or call ahead to reserve one of Carole’s Erlbacher or vintage Gearhart machines (first come, first serve). Handknitters or observers are welcome, too! Carole will have inexpensive scrap yarn, CSM needles, and a variety of sock yarns like Brown Sheep, Cotton Fine, Noro, Trekking and Tamm Bebe available on site. Hope you can join us! Bring a CHAIR   and all of your gear for the fiber craft you will work on. A rug for the floor if it is a sock machine so the weights don’t break the tiles and paper towels to wipe up any spills, oil or other wise.  Food to share if you want and some lunch as there are only snack machines and drink machines at the rest stop. February 21 – 24, 2018, Ankeny, Iowa    PIGS (People in Glorious Socks) at the Ramada. We will gather for demonstration, instruction, and of course to see old friends and make new ones. All levels of experience can learn from attending a crank-in. We will have a ‘garage sale’ where items related to sock machines are available. We welcome anyone to visit even if you do not have a machine. You don’t have to register to just drop by and see what this is all about. Who knows, this may be the hobby you have been looking for! March 3, 2018, Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada    8:30-4:00 pm at Tremblett’s Independent Grocer, 273 King St W, Ingersoll, Ontario N5C 2K9. The cost of the Crank In is a donation.
Because we are at a grocery store, we have grocery carts we can bring our supplies in, an elevator to go up to the room, and a deli to get a lunch. Please register in advance to socksbycrank@gmail.com as we have a limited but nicely lit room. Anyone interested in preordering their sock yarn from Fischerwool can have it delivered to the Ingersoll crank-in.

Stoney Creek Yarns will also have a presence with her hand dyed yarns.

March 3, 2018, Purcellville, Virginia    DC,MD,VA Crank-In will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 from 10am to 5 pm. The Purcellville Library, 220 East Main Street, Purcellville, VA 20132. There is room for about 20 crankers. This is FREE and open to ALL but the space for machines is limited.

March 10 – 11, 2018, Kegworth, UK    There will be another sock machine extravaganza weekend on 10-11 March 2018, to be known as Encounter Eighteen. Classes, advice, competitions, yarn. Venue is a conference hotel in Kegworth, UK, J24 of the M1. Day tickets £20 inclusive of lunch, or stay all weekend in the hotel. Newbies especially welcome, with or without a machine. May 12 – 13, 2018, Lake Elmo, Minnesota    Registration is now open for the CSM class at Shepherd’s Harvest. Bring any working CSM and make socks or a textured lace-like scarf. Carole and Jason will provide the yarn: a wool/nylon sock blend or a dress yarn for the scarf. Register here, scroll all the way down to the bottom to see the CSM pic.  We also plan to have a CSM on display at the Rocking Horse Farm booth in the center of Building D during the entire Festival.

All skill levels welcome. Come join us for a special small group CSM opportunity at the Hamburg Historical Museum in Hamburg, Michigan (north of Ann Arbor). Improve your skills or knit for entertainment with hosts Lucy and Eric. We can assist with beginning knitting, ribbing, troubleshooting and tuning as needed. The Museum will observe normal operations during our event, so the public may be on hand to visit with us. You will also have the opportunity to wander this lovely local museum.

May 26, 2018, St. Cloud, Minnesota    We host our annual Dye Workshop on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Dyeing will start at 1:30. Carole provides a sock blank or hank of dyeable wool/nylon, bamboo/nylon, or angora/nylon. You will go home with enough dyed yarn for a pair of socks.  Register online here.

May 28 – 31, 2018, Alberta, Canada    Twisted Sisters Retreat at the Deer Valley Meadows Christian Camp east of Red Deer. They charge $250.00 per person, with a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to hold your space, with the balance payable on your day of arrival. This includes your room and 6 meals, they serve lunch and supper. We are asked to bring items for breakfast and snacks to share with all who attend.The deadline for this retreat is May 1st, this will give our hosts enough time to make sure they have everything is place.  The Happy Crankers will be roomed in Gazebo House that has 6 bedrooms with two beds to a room, so you will be sharing a room. You will have to bring your own bedding and towels. They have access to large tables for our machines, but those of you that wish to bring your own tables may do so.  Once I have the number of registrants, your name will go on the waiting list. It is a first come first served basis, so if someone cancels you will be allowed the spot. June 9, 2018, Eau Claire, Wisconsin    A new CSM group is organizing and the first circular sock machine event will be on Saturday, June 9 just outside of Eau Claire, WI at a local yarn store, Stitch Supply Co. The event is free with demonstrations between 10 a.m. and noon, followed by a potluck lunch with private “cranking” time until 5 p.m. Please contact Marcy at mleasum@gmail.com for more information. August 18, 2018, Firestone, Colorado    Carbon Valley Regional Library, 7 Park Avenue, Firestone, CO, 10:30-4:30  Bring your Circular Sock Machines for a Northern Colorado Crank-in! We will be meeting at the Carbon Valley Regional Library in Firestone, in the small meeting room, on the left side just past the computer work stations.  Be sure and bring a stand, rug or mat to prevent oil drips, your tools and yarn, and anything you want to show off. Bring a sack lunch or run out and grab one from the many fast food locations within 2 miles.

August 23 – 25, 2018, Tacoma, Washington    This is a small-ish Studio retreat to get Fall projects started early. I have one overnight room available currently and about 3 spots for Crankers or Spinners. Contact me for details. We start on Thursday and end on Saturday Evening. August 23 – 26, 2018, Federal Way, Washington    “End of Summer” Camp for Creative Souls, Dumas Bay Centre.  The $200 deposit is due by Feb 23rd. September 8, 2018, Goderich, Ontario    Members of the Huron Tract Spinners and Weavers Guild plan to celebrate its 40th anniversary.  It will take place during the Fibre Fest in Goderich, Ont. at the lhe Livery Theatre on South Street. There will be some crankers demonstrating with their CSMs

September 28, 2018, Berryville, VA 2nd Annual Crank-In at the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival on Friday, September 28th from 5 PM – about 9 PM. It’s free and open to the public. The Lamb LT150 will be there, along with Amy from Lamb Knitting. CSMs will be demonstrated and for sale during the festival at the Lamb booth and Kim Garver’s of Appalachian Sock Company. September 28 – 29, 2018, St. Cloud, Minnesota    At Rocking Horse Farm.  Save the date! This year we have asked Deb Oswald to be one of our demonstrators at our 27th annual knitting machine seminar and she will be doing at least one session on the CSM each day. There are 5 other class choices each hour covering lots of machine kntiting topics. Also: yarn vendors, felted art display, style show, contest.  Registration is available here.

October 5 – 7, 2018, Ellison Bay, Wisconsin    I want to invite you all to our All Fiber Arts Retreat to be held in October 5-7 2018 at the Rowley Bay Resort in Ellison Bay WI. Circular Sock Machines will be featured and welcomed.. in fact we’d love to have a crank in! The show will offer vendors, classes, music, yoga, massage therapy, fish boil, pj party and door prizes plus much more. The resort has offered to hold a block of rooms for us until August at a great price and we are so excited to have you join us. There are quite a few CSM people in our area that meet regularly and we’d love to welcome all csm crankers and want to be crankers to come see what the fiber arts community is all about. October 11 – 14, 2018, Alberta, Canada    Lazy M Lodge retreat in October 2018.
www.lazymcanada.com  Our fall retreat will again be at the Lazy M Lodge. Those that were able to attend last year enjoyed it so much that we have booked the facilities again for the second weekend of October.  Again that is the number of rooms that we have but there are two beds to a room so you must share the room. The cost of this retreat is $415.00 ( as of now they have not contacted me with any increase in cost), again a $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot. We go with brunch and supper and we ask that you bring snacks to share in the Hall with everyone.
They do have a couple of tables for our machines but in this case it is best if you have your own table, please bring it. The deadline for this retreat is August 15th. Once I have the number of registrants, your name will go on the waiting list. It is a first come first served basis, so if someone cancels you will be allowed the spot. October 20, 2018, Purcelville, Virginia    DC, MD, VA Crankers — We’re meeting up again! It will be held on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 from 10am to 5 pm. Purcelville Library, 220 E Main St
Purcellville, VA 20132. 
There is room for about 20 crankers. This is FREE and open to ALL. Notice: This program is not sponsored by Loudoun County Public Library. And no sales are allowed (ie no vendors can show up and sell). Food and drinks are allowed inside the library and there are various places to eat in the area. November 11, 2018, Salem, New Hampshire    Our next Crank in will be on Sunday, Nov 11, 2018, 10am to 4pm at the roadside rest stop just before exit 1 on Rt 93 N in Salem NH.  All fiber crafts are welcomed. Bring a chair and a lunch and a drink and if you want , something to share with the group. Also all of your machine tools and a rug for sock machines so the weights won’t crack the tiles or oil dripping on the floor. The rest rooms do not have paper towels so bring your own for clean ups if necessary. bring a folding chair, the chairs at the rest-stop are for the travelers.  Food to share if you want and some lunch as there are only snack machines and drink machines at the rest stop.
