Crank-In Report: Sock Saturday, 2023

submitted by Wendy Taber

Sock Saturday#1 was held at the Cortland Masonic Lodge, Cortland, NY on February 25, 2023.

10 Knitters with CSMs or flatbeds had a day of knitting, sharing, and learning.  This is the first get-together in our area. We anticipate organizing many future events.

It was so interesting observing the types of socks that were made on flatbeds and diverse circular knitting machines. We had fully ribbed circular knit and flatbed socks, mock rib hem tops, tubular fair isle socks, garter carriage socks, and more.  Just beautiful.

It was great seeing all the different csms coming in of various dates and manufacturers to say nothing of the transport schemes.

We learned pros and cons of them all including one gorgeous blinged out NZAK with its sister from New Zealand along, with Wendy’s beloved smooooth NZAK  Black Beauty.

Of great interest was Lois’s experience with the CSKMS Level 1 certification program and seeing her knitted successes and struggles to meet the requirements.

A lot of socks piled up during our six happy hours at a lovely site. Some equipment changed hands. The CSKMS gave a 1 year membership that was won by Anita Cornell. Now hoping the wrinkles for gathering no. 2 will get ironed out – without slippery snow driving next time!
