Ravelry: Makenlace

Started cranking: About 10 years ago, I think

How did you learn about CSMs? Saw demonstration at the fair

How did you learn to crank? Trial, error, sore toes (weights are heavy when they fall!), and YouTube. Then had people help me at a crank in to get better/faster and use my ribber

Ribber preference: I only have a 1/2 slot ribber, keep meaning to order equal slot but just havent gotten around to it yet.

What do you like most about this pastime? I like it all, that I can make a family member a pair of socks in a day so I can actually give the gift of socks. That I can come up with an idea for something and actually make it or start over to redesign without losing weeks of work. That there are so many things I can make: socks, hats, mittens, scarves, toys, ornaments, and…

Favorite item to make? Probably socks

What is your favorite sock yarn? At the moment? Aktiv. But ultimate favorite is the possum sock yarn I’m hoarding.

Advice? There are way more crankers out there than you think, if you reach out there is probably someone close that can help you get started.

Do you know how to knit with sticks? Yes

Have you attended a local or regional crank-in? Yes

Pet peeve: Those last couple of stitches in the corner of a heel/toe that “jump” off the needle and disappear; never being able to find where I left my scissors/pick tool.

Goals: Turn more of the 5 million skeins of sock yarn in totes into socks. Have some ideas of possible patterns, need to find time to see if they actually work (my brother wants hunting mittens – thumb and index finger, about 15 pairs since he has friends…). Spend a week at Milissa Ellison Dewey’s house – don’t even need to touch, just to see her collection in person would be enough but don’t think 1 day would be enough (love her video tours!).
